Snow level 5000 feet. Prevailing south winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts to around 55 mph…except southwest 30 to 50 mph over ridges.

Heavy snow showers and heavy rain showers. Windy. Highs 29 to 43 higher elevations…38 to 48 lower elevations. No snow accumulation lower elevations…12 to 17 inches higher elevations. …FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM PST THIS
AFTERNOON THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING…

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* For the foothills portion of the Sierra Nevada, Cascade, and
Coastal Mountains.

* From 4 PM PST this afternoon through Thursday morning

* Persistent moderate to heavy rain may lead to flash flooding and
flooding over the area. This includes potential flash flooding
on foothill small creeks and streams.

* Some snow melt will add to water flowing into the rivers and
creeks of the lower mountain elevations and foothills. Three to
six inches of rain is expected with local amounts between eight
to twelve inches. This could cause ponding of water on area
roadways.

* Rainfall rates are not expected to exceed burn scar debris flow
thresholds.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

…Hazardous Mountain Winter Travel this Week…

.A series of winter storms will bring mountain snow, gusty winds,
and hazardous mountain travel to northern California this week.
Snow will spread into the northern Sierra this afternoon. Snow
levels will start out relatively low, but will be rising to
4500-5500 feet on Tuesday and to 5000-6000 feet on Wednesday.
Persistent long term snowfall for the western slopes will inundate
major pass levels into Thursday. 3 to 5 feet expected above 5000
feet with 10 feet or more possible near major pass levels and over
the peaks. Alternate routes are recommended during the event this
week.

* WHAT…Heavy snow expected. Travel will be very difficult to
impossible. Damage to trees and power lines is possible. Total
snow accumulations of 3 to 5 feet above 5000 feet, with
localized amounts over 10 feet at the higher elevations, are
expected.

* WHERE…West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada including Interstate
80 over Donner Pass and Highway 50 over Echo Summit.

* WHEN…Noon today to 6 AM Thursday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Be prepared for significant reductions in
visibility at times.

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means there will be snow covered
roads and limited visibilities. Travel is not recommended while
