Lane Change Takes Life of Ceres Resident Joshua Cody Boykin on Hwy 120 (Updated)

Jamestown, CA…On March 13, 2019 at approximately 6:25 pm, 25 year old Turlock resident, Jeffery Smith, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe traveling westbound on State Route 120 west of O’Byrnes Ferry Road at approximately 50-55 mph, in a line of vehicles. A 45 year old Ceres resident Joshua Cody Boykin was riding a 2016 Yamaha R1 motorcycle traveling approximately 50-55 mph, a few vehicles to the rear of Smith’s Tahoe. After eastbound traffic passed, the 45 year old rider moved his motorcycle into the eastbound lane and began to pass slower moving vehicles in front of him. As the motorcycle was pulling alongside the Tahoe, Smith moved to the left and began to enter the eastbound lane. Smith’s Tahoe struck the motorcycle, causing the Yamaha to travel to the left, across the eastbound lane and onto the shoulder.

The motorcycle traveled up an embankment and became airborne. The 45 year old rider was ejected and landed in the dirt and grass shoulder. The motorcycle tumbled across the top of the embankment and came to rest on the shoulder, south of the rider. Smith stopped his vehicle on the south shoulder, west of the collision scene. Smith and his passenger, 24 year old Turlock resident, Anycze Munson, were using the vehicle’s seatbelts and did not sustain any injuries. The 45 year old rider was wearing a full face helmet but tragically died on scene.

Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to have been a factor in this collision.
