Bear Valley, CA….A 16 year old Manteca man was riding a 2004 Ski-Doo northbound on the groomed snow covered roadway of Fremont Road south of Quaking Aspen Road, at a high rate of speed. Due to his unsafe speed he was unable to maintain control of the snowmobile. The Ski-Doo veered to the right traveling onto the east shoulder and up a snow embankment, becoming airborne. It then landed upright and then became airborne a second time as it continued in a northerly direction and down a snow embankment. The Ski-Doo struck a tree while airborne and landed on its left side. All parties were ejected off the Vehicle.
The driver sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment. Both passengers sustained major injuries and were flown from the scene by Life-flight to UC Davis for treatment.
Due to the age of the involved and the severity of the injuries we are withholding names at this time.
California law does require the use of helmets while operating a snowmobile on public lands.
Alcohol and/or Drugs are not believed to be a factor in this collision.
