Suspect Turns Herself In in 1990’s Child Abuse Sex Case

Sonora, CA…A nearly six month long investigation into child sex abuse allegations, ended with an arrest today. This morning, a former staff member from a Tuolumne school turned herself in. In December, the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office was notified of possible sexual abuse between a staff member and students at Mother Lode Christian School.

The sexual abuse was reported to have taken place in the 1990’s and involved underage students. The suspect, 61-year-old Mona McGrady, was a staff member who served as sports team coordinator and coach. The victims were former students and players.

Detectives from the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office confirmed with Mother Lode Christian School staff that McGrady no longer worked for the school and had resigned almost two decades ago.

Tuolumne County Sheriff Detectives investigated the allegations and determined there was enough evidence to issue a warrant for her arrest.

McGrady faces the following charges:
– 13 counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child 14 or 15 years old.
– 1 count of sexual penetration with a foreign object of a person under 18 years of age.

McGrady’s bail has been set at $100,000. Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact our office at 209-533-5815.
