As Our Area Spends a Night in Darkness Let Us Remember the Camp Fire Started on November 8th, 2018

Arnold, CA…While we look at the possibility of spending tonight and tomorrow night in darkness it might be of some benefit for us to remember that fire season is not over until our first real drenching rain. In November of 2018 most of us had already started to feel that fire season was over as temps were dropping and the calendar had entered November. It was a November fire that proved the worst fire in California history. The arrival of that winter’s first drenching storm only a few days later only intensified the fact that fire seasons are only ended by real winter storms and not the calendar.

From Wikipedia…”The Camp Fire was the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California’s history, and the most expensive natural disaster in the world in 2018 in terms of insured losses. Named after Camp Creek Road, its place of origin, the fire started on November 8, 2018, in Northern California’s Butte County. Ignited by a faulty electric transmission line, the fire originated above several communities and an east wind drove the fire downhill through developed areas. After exhibiting extreme fire spread, fireline intensity, and spotting behaviors through the rural community of Concow, an urban firestorm formed in the foothill town of Paradise. With the arrival of the first winter rainstorm of the season, the fire reached 100 percent containment after seventeen days on November 25, 2018.”
