Avery, CA…On Friday, November 13th The Amelia McKeen Memorial Library was dedicated and unveiled. Ms. McKeen lost a heroic battle with cancer a few weeks before the end of last school year. She instilled in her students the thrill of learning, joy in the quest for knowledge, love of reading and the example of putting the time in the classroom with them ahead of even her own struggles against her illness. One can only imagine the resolve it took on some mornings to make it her class and help young minds on their way up the ladder of education.
As a parent who had the honor of having a son who was her student last year, I saw first hand the impact she had on her students. I would like to say Thank You to her family for letting her share her gifts and her influence until the end of her battle.
Her resolve will be a a reminder to her students and all of us at times when we need a little extra push to carry on…If Ms. McKeen could do it than so can I!
We have photos and some video clips of the dedication.
