Murphys, CA…Ben Autrey August 4, 1924 ~ November 20, 2023 (age 99). Ben Dale Autrey, of Murphys, CA, passed away peacefully on November 20th , 2023. He was 99 years old. Ben was born in High Springs, FL to Albert and Annie Autrey. He was one of seven children. He was a WWII Veteran, serving in the US Navy from August 1942 to October 1945, aboard the USS Algorab. After returning to civilian life, he spent several years working for Southern Pacific Railroad, and then the City of Newark, as a Civil Engineer, before retiring in 1978.

Ben also spent time working as a Realtor, Volunteer Sherriff for Alameda County, Volunteer in Prevention of Wildfires for the US Forest Service, and as a Murphys Fire District Volunteer. He was also a private pilot, who enjoyed flying his Cessna 182, taking his wife to dinner wherever she desired.

Ben is survived by his sister, Barbara Silva Snyder. His granddaughter, Tammy Silviera (Richard). His two great-granddaughters, Rebecca Cookson (Cye) and Sarah Lamb. And five great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Autrey, and his daughter Carolyn Autrey.

A service was held, honoring Ben’s life, November 27th at 11:00am, in Angels Camp at the Angels Camp Memorial Chapel.
