Joanne Bissell Hemstad Passed Away on January 8 at 69

Murphys, CA…Joanne Bissell Hemstad, age 69, of Forest Meadows passed away on January 8, 2023. Survived by loving husband Dale; children, Jennifer and Eric; children-in-law, Nick and Cassie; grandchildren, Hunter, Blake and Tova. She was a beloved family member, cherished by all who knew her. She was born to Donald and Mary Jean Bissell with siblings Jim, Gary and Steve Bissell.

Joanne was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend to many. At the age of twelve, her family built one of the first cabins in Bear Valley, California. This experience shaped her love for the mountains, and she cherished the countless moments she spent in Bear Valley and Pacific Valley.

In her early years, Joanne worked as a retail buyer for Any Mountain and later found her passion at Bear Valley Ski Area, where she worked and pursued her love for skiing by participating in ski racing in the early 1980s and was the queen of the corporate ski challenge! She worked throughout her life at companies throughout the Bay Area including Bissell and Karn and other companies.

Joanne’s hobbies were a significant part of her life, and she found solace and happiness in them. Skiing was not just a profession but also a way for her to unwind and find peace. She also adored spending time with her grandchildren, as they brought immense joy into her life. Joanne loved traveling and exploring new places, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

Joanne Bissell Hemstad will be remembered as a loving family member, a dedicated friend and an adventurous soul. Her accomplishments and passions have left an unforgettable mark on the lives of those she touched. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

    To the Bissell family— what a great lady. She was always herself and allowed everyone else to be there self. always a faithful and true to her friends and family. And a great sense of humor. Her passing leaves a hole. My God Bless her and her family greatly at this time
