Murphys, CA…Wilma “Jewel” Lucken passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 11. She was born in Kansas on December 5, 1933 and came to California during the Dust Bowl with her parents, grandparents and 6 siblings; eventually settling in French Camp, California. She attended Manteca High School, where she held many athletic records. She met her husband, Mearl Lucken in High School and they married in 1953 while he was in the Air Force in Wichita Falls, Texas. After his discharge they moved to Stockton, California where they had 4 children, and then moving on to San Jose, California and eventually Murphys, California.
She held various jobs including school secretary, administrative assistant at Pacific Southwest Airlines, accountant for various businesses and her most important job, being our Mom. She and Mearl were very active in various service and charitable organizations throughout their lives, setting an example that their children and grandchildren have carried on to this day. She enjoyed cooking, golfing, reading, playing games and dancing. After Mearl’s retirement from State Farm they moved to Mexico for several years, and eventually to Palm Desert, California.
After Mearl passed in 2019, Jewel moved back up to the mountains she loved and spent her last 4 years at Foothill Village in Angels Camp, California. We want to thank the incredible staff at Foothill Village for their care of Jewel over the last 4 years. They treated her like their own mother.
She is survived by her 4 children, Neva (Mike), Suzie (Michael), Doug (Jennie), and Arlene, and 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. A celebration of life is pending but will most likely be sometime this summer.
