Pinecrest, CA…The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Detectives are still actively trying to identify the human remains found off of Highway 108 near Old Strawberry Road. A search of the area was completed and no evidence to suggest a cause of death or the identity of the remains was found. Thus far, they have been able to rule out any connection to several local missing person cases and are actively working to determine if there is a connection to any other cases.

The names of the missing persons who have been ruled out will not be released at this time, due to notification of next of kin. The remains have been sent to the department of justice to undergo forensic and DNA testing which we hope will lead to an identification. This process could take several weeks to complete. We will continue to post updates as more information becomes confirmed and available.
