It isn’t everyday that a young, independent craft distillery out of California makes the cover of one of the industry’s most widely distributed publications. When we heard the news, we had to rush out and buy a few copies. Seeing HINTERHAUS on the cover was a highlight of our year as we look ahead to 2025.

Leafing through the pages brought an added smile when we discovered that the publication’s two bourbon reviewers, the venerable experts Peggy Noe Stevens and Susan Reigler, gave both of our bourbons high scores.
Earning a 9.6 Rating from Noe Stevens and a 9.0 Rating from Reigler, our cask strength Single Barrel Reserve is among the highest rated bourbons in this edition.

At Hinterhaus, we offer two bourbons. Our blended 92 Proof straight bourbon – Calaveras Cask Finish Bourbon- spends 3+ years in new American bourbon charred oak casks from Kelvin Cooperage (KY) followed by a significant finishing time in Calaveras County, CA, wine barrels. Each batch boasts its own wine varietal finish which we detail on our website.

Our Calaveras Cask Strength Single Barrel Reserve Bourbon is the result of our attention to detail; when our father/son distillers Nate and Keagan Randall discover barrels of bourbon which are particularly appealing to them and maturing differently than the rest, we put them aside for additional aging and a unique wine barrel finish. We bottle these barrels individually and present them at cask strength- generally 110-120 Proof.

You don’t have to take the experts’ words.
