San Andreas, CA…January is National Blood Donor Month, a time to raise awareness about the ongoing need for blood donations and recognize those who generously give the gift of life. Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) proudly celebrates the contributions of longtime donor and MTMC team member, Leo Castleberry, whose dedication to blood donation has spanned decades.
Leo Castleberry first began donating blood at the age of 21. After a brief pause, he resumed at age 38 and has continued donating up to his current age of 65. Over the years, he has donated approximately 20 gallons of blood, reaching a personal goal that exemplifies his commitment to helping others. As he approaches retirement, Castleberry looks forward to resuming his donations with even greater frequency.
“I believe donating blood is like voting or serving on a jury. It is a civic duty for those who are able to do so,” said Castleberry. “It’s one of the easiest ways to make a significant impact on the lives of people in need.”
Blood donations are critical to maintaining a stable supply for hospitals and emergency MTMC partners with local blood banks to support blood drives throughout the year. Those interested in donating can visit their nearest blood donation center or check the MTMC Facebook Page for upcoming donation events.
