Sonora, CA…On Monday morning around 11 AM, Dep. Hammell was driving northbound on Hillsdale Drive, in Sonora. A silver Pontiac Grand AM, came to a stop at the intersection past the stop sign limit line and had a paper rear dealer plate and the vehicle did not display a temporary registration tag on the rear window. The Deputy initiated a traffic stop and the driver identified himself verbally, as 38 year old Jason Stevens of Sonora.
A records checked showed Stevens had a suspended license. Stevens stepped out of the car and spoke with the Deputy at the patrol vehicle. When asked if he had anything illegal on his person, Stevens began removing items out of his pockets and Deputy Hammell continued the search of his belongings. A glass methamphetamine pipe was located in his jacket and as the Deputy pulled Stevens left pant leg away from his shoe, a folded piece of clear plastic cellophane fell out of his pant leg onto the ground. The plastic cellophane contained a little over one gram of methamphetamine. Stevens was booked into the Tuolumne County Jail for possession of a controlled substance, possession of controlled substance paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license.
