Hospice of Amador & Calaveras Awarded Grant from Sutter Medical Group Funds to benefit Griefbusters and We Honor Veterans Programs

Jackson, CA…Sutter Medical Group, affiliated with Sutter Medical Foundation, awarded $3,000 to Hospice of Amador & Calaveras (HOAC) on June 15th as part of their most recent Philanthropy Program funding period. Hospice of Amador & Calaveras will use the grant to bolster two critical programs: Griefbusters and We Honor Veterans.

The Griefbusters program supports school aged children ages 5-19 who are grieving the death of a loved one. The program also provides crisis management in both counties in emergent events such as car accidents and sudden deaths, whereby specially trained volunteers and HOAC team members arrive on site and make themselves available for students to speak with. This unique program has been in existence for 33 years and is the only one of its kind in our area to support the child through their grief process in a healthy and productive fashion.

The We Honor Veterans program pairs local veteran volunteers with hospice veteran patients. The camaraderie created between veterans has proven to be supportive for all involved through their unique ability to relate and connect with one another by way of a shared language and experience.
As a national partner in the We Honor Veterans campaign, developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs, HOAC has noted significant improvement to patients’ end-of-life experience and a lessening of PTSD symptoms for the veteran volunteer as well as the veteran hospice patient.

These and other HOAC programs are solely supported by grants and contributions from our community, and we appreciate them immensely.
