Student Detained at Calaveras High School after He Reportedly Talked of Bringing Gun to School

San Andreas, CA…Today, 3-6-18, Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the Calaveras High School located in San Andreas for a report that a student had mentioned bringing a firearm to campus. It was reported that during a discussion regarding lock down drills and school safety, the 15 year old male student was heard making statements similar to “I guess I better not bring a gun that day”. This same student was overheard talking about guns in another conversation. School staff was made aware of the comments and notified the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies conducting the investigation confirmed that there was no specific expressed threats made and no weapons in the student’s possession. Deputies arrested the student, removing him from campus and transported him to juvenile probation while parent notification is underway. The Sheriff’s Office is committed to completing full and immediate investigations involving threats and/or weapons at our local schools. Inappropriate comments or statements, whether students think they are a joke or made as a threat, will be taken seriously with just and serious consequences.
