Sonora, CA…We have seen more instances of bear activity in Calaveras & Tuolumne Counties than in any other year in the last 13 years ThePineTree.net has been covering news. This one is from the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Dept. This inquisitive young cub was not even at the Twain Harte level but in the City of Sonora off of Racetrack. “A bear cub makes an appearance in the area of Racetrack Road at East Walnut Street in Sonora. Last week there were several sightings of a mama bear and her cub at a mobile home park and a residential neighborhood in the same vicinity. The two seemed to be searching for food as they curiously sifted through garbage and wandered through a backyard of a residence. A Sheriff’s Deputy searched the area looking for the mama bear but she was no where to be found.”
“We want to remind everyone to be alert and keep an eye out.
Remember distance equals safety.
If you encounter a bear in your yard, chances are it will move on if there is nothing for the bear to forage.
If there is enough distance between you and the bear, you can encourage the bear to leave by making loud noises.
Secure garbage cans and do not leave scraps of food outside around your home. Keep an eye on your small pets and share this information with your children. Make sure they know to tell you if they see a bear in the area.”
