Copperopolis, CA…From the Copperopolis Fire Protection District…”Tomorrow, all firefighters able to participate in the Ed Gouzenne and family escort and honor guard should meet at station 1 at 5 PM. Please wear your Class B’s. There should be room enough for everyone in all our vehicles. We will meet up with Eds family at the Calaveras County Line on Highway 4 and escort his remains back to Station 1.
Ed, was a fourth-generation Calaveras County resident with his mom born in Jenny Lind and his father near Paloma. The homes they were born in are still standing. Ed was looking to learn a trade when he applied at Calaveras Telephone and was hired by Howard Tower. For 38 years Ed Gouzenne worked at Cal Tel in the company warehouse as their purchasing agent.
For 8 years we have known Ed as an invaluable member of the Copperopolis Fire Protection District Board of Directors and as a veteran 40 year Volunteer Captain Firefighter.
In addition to his duties at CalTel and the Fire Department, Ed was chairman of the Western Underground Utilities Association, a board member for USA North 811, a member of Calaveras County’s public access television board and “keeper of the keys” for the Copperopolis Museum. He opened the museum during the annual Copperopolis Homecoming celebration and during field trips to the museum by local school children.
In addition to all the above, Ed loved riding his 2008 Harley Softtail. Ed and his wife Kathy have two sons, Brett, 40, and Eddy, 32; a stepdaughter, Kayla, 31, and three grandchildren.
Ed, you will be missed.
