Jamestown, CA…On July 19, 2019, at approximately 2:30am, CHP officers were advised to be on the look-out for a white Chevrolet Camaro that was driving recklessly on eastbound State Route 108 at the Yosemite Junction. Approximately 10 minutes later, a CHP unit located the vehicle traveling northbound on State Route 49 near Fifth Avenue at a high rate of speed. The CHP unit attempted to make an enforcement stop on the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro that was being driven by Jose Miguel Lopez, a 28-year-old male out of Modesto. Mr. Lopez failed to comply and accelerated to speeds over 100 miles per hour.

The CHP Officers continued to pursue the vehicle with the assistance of Tuolumne County Sheriff Deputies. The vehicle continued to maintain its unsafe speed and to pass over the double yellow lines multiple times. As they traveled passed Long Barn Road on eastbound State Route 108, the vehicle began to have mechanical issues and slowed to approximately 40 miles per hour. Eventually, Mr. Lopez pulled the vehicle to the right shoulder and stopped.

Mr. Lopez was then taken into custody without any further incident. While at the scene, Officer’s learned Mr. Lopez had his two 15-year-old juvenile nephews as passengers with him. Tuolumne County Sheriff Deputies stood by with the juveniles until they were released to their family.

Mr. Lopez was later transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked for multiple charges including driving under the influence of alcohol.
