Calaveras County’s New Probation Chief Sam Leach Sworn In Today

San Andreas, CA…The Judge Martin, Judge Swift, and the Board of Supervisors selected Sam Leach as the new Chief Probation Officer. Sam was sworn in at a ceremony at the New Court House Sam has extensive experience in the field of probation. He comes to Calaveras County from Sutter County, where he has been employed as a Supervising Probation Officer since 2005. He is originally from Riverside County, which is also where his career in probation started. Since 2011, Sam has owned a small consulting business that assists probation departments statewide with the implementation of Evidence Based Practices, as well as departmental responses to AB109/Realignment.  Sam has provided ongoing trainings and consultations related to case planning, assessments, Motivational Interviewing, and Evidence Based Practices to staff from more than half of the counties in California…


New Chief Probation Officer Sam Leach

Sam has a Masters Degree in Public Administration from National University and a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from California State University, San Bernardino.  

Sam is a devoted husband and father.  He plans on permanently relocating to Calaveras County with his wife, Rachel, and 10-year-old daughter, Samantha.  Sam loves coaching youth sports, traveling, reading, and learning new skills. He looks forward to embracing a new community, both personally and professionally.
