Additionally, he sits on the board of the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance and Murphys Creek Theater.

The Huberty family immigrated to Calaveras County in the 1850s from Luxembourg; they established the Huberty Ranch in 4th Crossing. The Huberty Ranch brand was the first registered brand in the county. Martin spent his childhood summers and weekends on the Huberty Ranch in San Andreas or at the family cabin on Lake Alpine. The impact of the family can still be felt today, as a part of not only Calaveras history, but the clan has made its mark on the history of California as well. Martin continues the family legacy by making Calaveras his home and giving back to many community organizations.

John Huberty, immigrated from Luxembourg to Calaveras County in search of gold, and opened the American RestaurantIn San Andreas, know home to the Calaveras Archives.

Huberty grew up Sacramento, next door to then Governor Ronald Regan and his family. After graduating from UC Davis, he moved to New York, Los Angeles and London.

Although most of his life and career were spent traveling the world, in his words,

“I don’t feel at home anywhere else but Calaveras County.”

In 2002, he and his partner, Grant Armstrong, purchased a Gold Rush era industrial building in Murphys that they painstakingly restored as their permanent residence. The home also provides a dramatic setting for their comprehensive collection of Calaveras County artifacts and antiques.

His career in the motion picture industry spans more than three decades and he has has produced, written and directed a number of award winning and Oscar nominated feature and short films. His current project is a full length feature film about his great, great grandmother’s journey to Calaveras county. Before returning permanently to Calaveras County in 2018, Huberty was the Chief of Staff with the York household in the British Royal Family. Huberty is currently scheduling public appearances and speaking engagements in District 3, which has recently been expanded from Tamarac to Vallecito along Highway 4.
